INDOOR PLANT or OUTDOOR PLANT - Mother In Law's Tongue - Silver Princess

We are all probably familiar with the image and the name of this plant...'Mother-in-Law's Tongue'... due to it's huge popularity as a houseplant.

Mother-in-Law's Tongue, Sansevieria Trifasciata , also known as a snake plant, originates from West Africa but was first cultivated and kept as treasured houseplants in China because it was believed the eight gods bestowed their virtues (long life, prosperity, intelligence, beauty, art, poetry, health, and strength) upon those who grew the plant!

Now-days, in Australia it is ever so popular as it is fiercely hardy and nearly indestructible! It features stiff leaves that range from 10-15 cm's to 2 meters tall, depending on the variety. Mother-in-Law's Tongue plants vary in colour, most commonly they are green inside the stem and feature a yellow border. This variety is called the 'Silver Princess' and is always so popular - a darker sword shaped leave with slivery splashes over the stems.

Due to how hardy and easy they are to look after a Mother-in-Law's Tongue is a perfect 'beginner' plant, a great gift for someone who is starting out on their plant journey, or a great option for an office, business or holiday home.

LIGHT

Mother-in Law's Tongue plants can be very adaptable to where they are placed. Their happy place will be an area with bright natural light however they can tolerate lower light or full sun conditions. Can tolerate being outdoors in a sheltered warm location.

WATER

Let the soil dry out between waterings. During winter, reduce watering to monthly, or whenever the soil is dry to the touch. If choosing to over-water or under-water this plant always choose to under-water ... to much water can lead to your plant rotting.

WE RECOMMEND PLANTING IN...

When repotting your Mother-in-Law's Tongue plant look for a pot that is 3 - 10cm larger in circumference. We have a large range of decorative pots that we'll sure you will be able to find one you love!
