INDOOR PLANT - Calathea Insignis- Rattlesnake Calathea in 13cm Pot

If you've collected the more 'common' indoor plants, think devils ivy, rubber plants, monstera, snake plant etc, and are looking for something a bit more intricate, delicate and a tad more challenge then let us introduce you to Calathea's! Commonly called prayer plants due to the way their leaves move during the day to capture the sunlight. At night they stand up straight!

Prayer plants, for which they're are up to 50 species of, vary from dark green velvety leaves to leaves with intricate patterns and purple undersides have some of the most stunning foliage out there! Many Calathea's require lower light than other popular plants, and with the proper care, they bring colour, geometry—and movement. We would not recommend a Calathea as a first plant but for you more experienced plant parents browse our range of beautiful Calatheas and let your Prayer Plant addiction commence!

Bright natural light is best for all Calatheas. Calatheas enjoy humidity so a brightly lit bathroom or kitchen, or a cluster or calatheas together is a good idea. Calatheas do poorly in direct sun, which can burn the leaves.
Water your Calathea's enough to keep it moist, but not wet or saturated as yellowing may occur on the leaves. During the warmer months, water more frequently to keep the soil damp, but never waterlogged. In the winter, only water when the soil becomes dry to the touch. Extended periods of dryness can result in leaves curling and brown leaf tips or edges. Overwatering causes the plant to wilt—and wilted plants recover slowly.

Calathea's don't mind being 'hugged' by their pots so be sure to only increase your plants pot size gradually. We recommend selecting a pot that is only a few centimetres larger that what it is in currently in. A 17cm Mr Kitly self watering pot is a great choice for a Calathea as any excess water can easily flow into the reservoir allowing the plant a little more time to drink a bit more. We don't recommend leaving water sitting in the reservoir for longer than a 1/2 day as that will be detrimental to the plants health.

** Please note all of our excellent plants are hand selected so we can vouch for their quality. The Calathea you receive may not be the exact one pictured but it will be equally green and lush!
