Fiddle's are native to tropical parts of Africa, where they thrive in very warm and wet conditions. In Australia they are grown super successfully and more often than not always rate as Australia's number one houseplant.
There is no shortage of articles on the internet on how to care for your Fiddle. We have condensed this to give you the highlight real of our top tips to care for your Fiddle so you will soon have it touching your roof in all of it's splendour!
LIGHT
Your Fiddle Leaf Fig will grow best with consistent, bright, filtered light. Turn the plant every few months once it begins to lean towards the light. Avoid a North facing window in summer as too much strong afternoon sun may burn those leaves. Choose a spot that will have consistent light and warmth year round as Fiddles don't do too well with change!
In choosing a spot for your Fiddle at home avoid it being directly under or over ducted heating or an air-conditioning unit as it will not enjoy the pressure of the dramatic change of temperatures.
WATER
Allow the top 30 - 50% of the soil to dry out before re-watering. A full wetting of all the soil every 2-3 weeks during the growing season (less in winter) is best to ensure all the roots can access moisture. We recommend moving your fiddle outside if you are able to to every 2 - 4 weeks to completely drench the soil, if it is an overcast rainy day then even better as your Fiddle leaves will love that rain water.
If your plant does not get enough water, the leaves will become limp and floppy, eventually turning brown or yellow before falling off. If your Fiddles leaves are getting brown patches and falling off then it might be a sign your Fiddle is getting too much water. Allow it to have dry periods in-between a good soak.
